It is becoming evident that changes in the intracellular calcium homeostasis of aged cells including neurons may lead to the development of aging-related diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, calcium remodeling may also be involved in cell senescence. Accordingly, intracellular calcium remodeling could be considered as a novel aging hallmark. The use of novel calcium probes at the cellular and subcellular level in aged cells and organisms may provide new insights on the mechanisms involved and the development of novel tools to delay and/or treat aging and aging-related diseases. These topics will be discussed in detail at the ECS symposium 2026 on Calcium Remodelling as a Novel Aging Hallmark to be celebrated in Valladolid, Spain, in september 2026. Valladolid is an historical city in Spain, founded in 1074 during the reconquest times, that hosted the foundation of the University of Valladolid in 1241, the marriage in 1469 of the Catholic Monarchs Isabel and Fernando, thus uniting the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon for the creation of Spain, the treaty of Tordesillas in 1494 for distributing the new world with Portugal, the death of Christopher Columbus in 1506, the birth of King Filip II of Spain in 1527, the Valladolid debate setting the Indian rights in 1551, the first declaration of human rights, the release of Don Quixote, considered the first modern novel by our neighbor Miguel de Cervantes, among many other issues
In one of the most unique spaces in Valladolid, the Royal Seminary College of the Augustinian Fathers, is the San Agustín Cultural Center with more than 3,200 m2 of spaces dedicated to the organization of training activities and/or events, integrated into a splendid architecture designed in 1759 by Ventura Rodríguez, who was considered the most active and influential court architect in Spain of the 18th century.
Augustinian Fathers preached in Asia and particularly in the Philippine Islands, so named after Philip II by Ruy López de Villalobos in 1543.

Valladolid is at about 200 km northwest of Madrid. The trip takes about 2 h by car and 1 h by high-speed train. Most important locations in the world have direct flights with Madrid Airport. From Madrid airport you can take a direct taxi, bus o metro to Chamartin Train Station and then pick up one of the nearly 40 daily trains to Valladolid Campo Grande train station in about 1 h. Then, you are at 5-6 min walking distance from the venue or selected hotels.
Invited guests and other attendees will be hosted at Recoletos Hotel and Colon Plaza Hotel, located at 350 m (5 min walk) from the venue and at 450 m (6 min walk) distance from the Valladolid Campo Grande Train Station.
